The Prosecutor’s Office of Gaziantep, Turkey, confirmed on December 20 local time that the number of deaths in the oxygen equipment explosion in the local private hospital on the 19th has increased to 11.
At 4:45 a.m. local time on the 19th, an oxygen equipment explosion occurred in the intensive care unit of COVID-19 patients in SANKO University Hospital, a private hospital in Gazi Antepu.
At that time, the ward was treating 19 severe COVID-19 patients.
After the explosion, 7 people died on the spot and one died of serious injuries.
The remaining patients were then urgently transferred to other hospitals for treatment.
So far, three people have died in deteriorating condition.
Turkish Health Minister Koja and Minister of Justice Gül rushed to Ghazi Antep after the accident and held a press conference on the same day.
Attorney General Gul said that the prosecution will thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and investigate whether there is negligence.
At present, an investigation is under way by a panel of two prosecutors and an expert committee.
