December 18th the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and the World Health Organization announced that the “COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan” has scheduled nearly 2 billion doses of vaccine, and 190 economies have participated in the plan.
The first batch of vaccines is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of next year. All participating economies will receive vaccines in the first half of next year to protect vulnerable groups, with the goal of covering the vaccination needs of 20% of the participating economies by the end of 2021.
Under the plan, at least 1.3 billion doses of vaccine will be provided to 92 low- and middle-income economies, of which 86 have submitted vaccine applications.
WHO Director-General Tedros Tedros said that the COVID-19 pandemic can only be truly ended if the epidemic is ended at the same time around the world. Part of the population in all countries must be vaccinated, not everyone in some countries.
