December 16th – According to AFP on the 15th, the Paris municipal government was fined 90,000 euros by the French Ministry of Public Service for employing too many female senior employees. In response, Paris Mayor Hidalgo said he was happy to be punished.
According to the report, in 2018, 11 of the senior positions in the Paris municipal government were women and 5 were men, accounting for 69% of women. The French government stipulates that the proportion of single gender in senior positions in municipal governments shall not exceed 60%, and violators will be fined.
In response, Hidalgo said, “I’m glad to be punished, but we are not feminists”. She said she would pay the fine together with the deputy mayor and other female staff. She also said that the social status of French women should be further improved, “In order to achieve gender equality, we should speed up the pace and ensure that more women get jobs”.
French Minister of Public Service de Montecharin responded on Twitter that the fine had been issued in 2018 and that the fine would be used to improve the social status of women, and she also invited Hidalgo to discuss related topics.
