According to the results of the fourth round of serological studies released by the Spanish Ministry of Health and the Carlos III Institute of Health on December 15 local time, about 9.9% of the population of Spain, equivalent to 4.7 million people, have been infected with the novel coronavirus since the COVID-19 pandemic.
This statistic represents an increase of 4.7 percentage points compared to the 5.2% positive rate shown in the June 2020 serology study.
This round of serum antibody testing was carried out between November 16 and 29 local time. A total of 51,409 people from all regions and municipalities in Spain participated in the sampling test.
Among them, the three central provinces of Madrid, Cuenca and Soria have the highest positive rate, exceeding 18%, and the region with the lowest positive rate is Tenerife, about 3.5%.
