On the night of the 13th local time, extreme weather continued to rage in southeastern Queensland, Australia. Rainfall in famous tourist destinations such as Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast reached nearly 200 mm.
Rain caused flooding in some places, with strong winds blowing down trees, cutting power to about 6,800 houses and some road traffic. During this period, the emergency department received a total of 700 calls for help.
The Meteorological Bureau predicts that there will still be heavy rain, strong winds and destructive waves in southeast Queensland on the 14th, and there is a possibility of flooding in some areas.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Response Department deployed more water rescue personnel, while requiring residents to be prepared for floods, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from roads that may be flooded.
In the World Heritage site of Fraser Island, heavy rain over the weekend helped firefighters control the bush fire that had burned for several weeks.
The island’s scenic spots and tourist facilities will reopen to the public on the 15th.
