Moderna said on Friday that the U.S. government will purchase an additional 100 million doses of the company’s coronavirus candidate vaccine. If authorized, the vaccine is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2021.
Moderna said that the government has ordered 200 million doses of vaccine so far, and of the first order, about 20 million doses will be delivered by the end of December, and the rest will be delivered in the first quarter of 2021.
The U.S. government reached an agreement with Moderna in August to purchase 100 million doses of vaccine for about $1.5 billion and have the option to obtain an additional 400 million doses.
