December 8th – On theĀ 7th local time, U.S. President-elect Biden revealed that he will announce the appointment of U.S. Defense Secretary and Attorney General this week.
According to the Capitol Hill, Biden said in an interview with Wilmington, Delaware, “I will announce the news on Wednesday (9th local time) and Friday (11th local time),” and then added that the appointment of the defense minister will be announced on the 11th.
U.S. media said that the Secretary of Defense and the Attorney General are the two major cabinet positions Biden has not yet announced. The candidates for the Attorney General include Jeh Johnson, a former chief counsel of the Department of Defense who served in the Obama administration, and Sally Yates, a former deputy secretary of the Department of Justice.
In response to the defense secretary, in addition to Jay Johnson, Michelle Flournoy, the former deputy secretary of defense, and Lloyd Austin, the former commander of the US Central Command, are in the competition.
