December 8 – Since the beginning of this year, U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo has been exposed to have used government resources to hold elite dinners on many occasions. U.S. media quoted a document on the 7th to reveal that Pompeo spent more than $40,000 in taxpayer funds at a luxury dinner.
According to the American Daily Beast, documents obtained by the Citizens’ Moral Responsibility Organization (CREW), the Washington state government oversight agency, showed that Pompeo spent $43,546 on running a luxury dinner for Republican politicians. CREW also said that this figure is unlikely to be the full cost of the dinner party.
This kind of elite dinner party is called the Pompeo version of “Madison Dinner”. NBC reported in September this year that Pompeo has held similar dinners since he was appointed Secretary of State in 2018. In March, it was temporarily suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and when it restarted again in September, it attracted criticism from all walks of life in the United States.
