From March to June, about 20,000 elderly people in nursing homes in Spain died of suspected or diagnosed with COVID-19.
According to the latest report recently submitted to the government by the Spanish Minister of State for Social Services, about 20,000 elderly people in Spanish nursing homes died of suspected or diagnosed with COVID-19 during the first wave of COVID-19 from March to June this year.
This figure is equivalent to 6% of the total number of elderly people living in nursing homes nationwide, and it also accounts for 47 percent to 50% of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 deaths during the country’s first wave of epidemic.
The report said that this data is calculated by the joint statistics of the Spanish government and the social welfare working groups established by the regions.
