China Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Meng Wanzhou incident is a political incident. The Canadian government should make a decision that is in line with justice, the rule of law and the interests of the people.
At today (4th), a reporter asked a question at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Canadian prosecutors reportedly claimed that the court should delete the testimony of Michael Gottlieb, a White House lawyer under the Obama administration, submitted by Meng Wanzhou’s legal team in the extradition case in July.
Gottlieb’s testimony pointed out that Trump used Meng Wanzhou as a bargaining chip for trade negotiations with China.
How does China comment on this?
China Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunyu said that the facts have long proved that the Meng Wanzhou incident is a serious political incident. The U.S. government fabricated this incident for no legal reason.
The real purpose is to suppress Chinese high-tech enterprises and hinder China’s scientific and technological development.
The Canadian government plays the role of an accomplice of the U.S.
government and arbitrarily detain innocent Chinese citizens who do not violate any Canadian laws has aroused strong indignation among the Chinese people and led to the trough of China-Canada relations in the past two years.
We once again urge the Canadian government to face up to the problem and make the right decisions that are just, in accordance with the rule of law and in the fundamental interests of the Canadian people.
