Rumsford, a staff member of the American Meteor Association, said that on the afternoon of December 2, people in many areas heard loud “exploding” or saw “fireballs”. As of 5 p.m. on the same day, the association had received more than 90 reports from New York, Maryland, Michigan, and even Ontario, Canada.
Among them, the police agency and fire department in central New York received several 911 alarm calls, saying that an explosion shook the window. Experts believe that due to the largest number of people reported near Syracuse, this may be the location of the meteor’s disintegration.

A witness in New York State said that the “fireball” he saw was bright white with a yellow shadow. Witnesses in Virginia said, “Because it is sunny, it looks like shiny metal flashing on the blue sky.” Some netizens joked on social media, “This is the power of the universe!”
However, astronomical experts explained, “We usually see more meteors at night, because meteors are more obvious at night, but bright meteors during the day are not uncommon. This happens several times a year in densely populated areas.”
