January 1st local time, the health department of the Swiss canton of Ticino announced that the state confirmed the first case of mutant novel coronavirus found in South Africa.

The infected person, who was from South Africa, tested positive for COVID-19 before Christmas, is currently under quarantine in the canton of Ticino, marking the third case in Switzerland to have contracted the variant.

Previously, Switzerland also found five cases of mutant COVID-19 found in the United Kingdom, and a total of eight mutant COVID-19 infections in Switzerland.

According to the Swiss federal government regulations, all people traveling from the United Kingdom and South Africa to Switzerland must undergo a mandatory quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.
