The Argentine Ministry of Health issued a notice on May 5 local time that eight cases of hepatitis in children with unknown causes have been found in the country since May.

According to the notice, eight patients belong to different regions and there is no correlation between them, so the risk of infectious hepatitis outbreak can be temporarily excluded. The Ministry of Health of Albania has invited dozens of medical experts to form a special working group to follow up patients. At present, the relevant case samples are being tested, and it has not been determined whether it is “serious” hepatitis.

On May 4 local time, the Argentine Ministry of Health reported that the first case of severe hepatitis in unexplained children had been found in the country. Argentina also became the 20th country in the world and the first country in Latin America to report such cases.

World Health Organization spokesman Yasarevich said on May 3 that as of May 1, at least 228 cases of hepatitis in children with unknown causes had been reported from 20 countries.
