January 21st – On the 20th local time, Amanda Gorman, a 22-year-old African-American woman, recited poems at Biden’s inauguration ceremony. She became the youngest in American history.
According to UPI, Gorman recited a song called “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration, talking about the riots in the United States Congress and calling for unity.
After the reading, Gorman tweeted a ring wearing it and said it was given to her by Oprah Winfrey, a famous American talk show host, in memory of a late inauguration poet Maya Angelou.
Oprah later posted: “Gorman is the most proud young woman to me.” According to Business Insider, Gorman also wore earrings that day by Oprah.
Gorman is from Los Angeles.
According to the Associated Press, Gorman said that at the end of December 2020, Biden’s inaugural committee contacted her and told her that she was recommended by First Lady Jill Biden.
