January 8th local time, the Ministry of Health of Singapore announced that the preliminary test results of a male employee at the Crowne Plaza Hotel restaurant at Changi Airport showed that he was infected with B.1.1.7 mutant COVID-19.
This is the second confirmed case of a local mutant COVID-19 infection in Singapore in three days.
The two work together in a hotel restaurant. Another of their colleagues was also diagnosed on the 7th, but their test results showed that they were not infected with the B.1.1.7 variant of COVID-19.
Crowne Plaza Hotel at Airport will be closed for 14 days from the 8th for disinfection.
The Ministry of Health of Singapore also tested 234 hotel staff.
At present, 233 people have been tested, of which 129 have negative results, and another 104 are still waiting for results.
On 23 December 2020, the Ministry of Health of Singapore announced the confirmation of a 17-year-old female citizen who returned from the United Kingdom to test positive for COVID-19 strain B.1.1.7.
Another 11 confirmed cases from Europe, B.1.1.7, have tested positive for the virus strain B.1. recently arrived from Europe, but they are still pending repeated testing confirmation. A Singapore Airlines flight attendant who flew to London was diagnosed with the infection upon his return.
The Singapore government has announced that it will tighten immigration control measures against the United Kingdom from December 24.
